Wow. Last week was rough. It used up more of my energy than I thought it did. I was left puttering around in circles like a broken down car, but didn’t REALIZE it. It’s not a good feeling.
I was hopeful that this week would be UNSTOPPABLY AWESOME, but I am a day late writing this post, and I am feeling pretty sick–the kind of raw sinus and scratchy throat, foggy headed sick you feel when you are first coming down with something. It doesn’t look good.
Accountability
So… yeah. The goals from last week weren’t completely met. They were actually not met at all. It sure does suck failing publicly like that, so, despite the illness, I’m really ready to not fail this week.
Week 3 Goals:
- Put together business plan for upcoming business (via copyblogger)
- Get a kindle edition of Shimmer Magazine created, and put into online stores.
- Finish all my teaching work by Friday afternoon, and not have to think about it on the weekend.
- Football. Playoffs.
I’ve started using and implementing Joe’s Goals to help me keep track of the daily stuff. There’s a lot to be said for remembering to do the little things, like making the bed every morning, cleaning the catbox every night, and getting rid of 3 items everyday (as part of my goal to MINIMIZE). Obviously I won’t post those here every week: those are the “duh” goals that get managed by Joe’s Goals (which has been very useful so far. Try it out if you never have!).
Recent Expirements
Learning is a process where one can expect to fail before finding success, usually. Because learning by do is the strongest way to learn, and doing something one is inexperienced at will not lead to success, it is okay to fail. The power is in trying.
I have been trying to hone my copywriting skills recently. One of my blogs received a copy thousand visitors over a few days, and I decided to try and capitalize on this by split testing some pop up windows to encourage them to subscribe to the site’s email list. I split test four different pop ups, with four very different messages, and let it run. It was a spectacular failure, because the traffic was less than targeted. But it was a good experiment and a great chance to practice my writing.
I also tried reaching out to a successful internet entrepreneur and offering help with an upcoming project he announced on his blog. I wrote a quick email offering to review the product, provide feedback, proofread, etc. I’ve written emails like this before which didn’t work out, but this one did. I will be helping him with the release of an upcoming online course at the end of January. One important piece of advice I see many successful people give is this:
Put yourself out there. Make yourself available. Take chances; jump at opportunities.
So I did, and it worked out. I’m looking forward to being a valuable resource to someone I respect, and I’m sure only good things will come of it.
The important lesson here: STFU AND DO IT. Whatever it is. Whatever the thing that you want–just start doing it. You’ll be surprised at the success. Because NOT doing anything is definitely a guaranteed way to not succeed.
Until next week…
